A true Bharath Ratna – Atal Bihari Vajpayee


We are unnecessarily wasting our precious resources in wars… if we must wage war, we have to do it on unemployment, disease, poverty, and backwardness.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, 25 December 1924 – 16 August 2018 was an Indian politician, writer, poet, and wonderful orator who served three time as the Prime Minister of India, first for a term of 13 consecutive days in 1996, for a period of eleven months from the year 1998 to 1999, and then for a full term as prime minister from 1999 to 2004 for five consecutive years.

From national economic reforms to foreign policies, He is the man who shaped the nation from poverty to a well-developing country, some of his major contributions include,


SSA program which was started by BJP government under the major leadership of Vajpayee. SSA which is a free and compulsory education to the children of 6 to 14 years of age group. SSA main intention was to cover the needs of almost 200 million children. The SSA program was hugely successful and showed less school dropout results by 65% within 5 years of it’s launch.

  1. India-Pakistan: after the Kargil malevolent war Vajpayee made a huge effort in the year 2003 to extend a good relationship with Pakistan. India and Pakistan then agreed to stop cross-border firing, an understanding that is held up as a major defense confidence-building measure between the two nations
  2. India-US: Vajpayee declared the capabilities of national nuclear warheads to the world and which later in the year 2008 resulted in India-US nuclear deal.

In the year of 2001 Vajpayee launched the Golden Quadrilateral and which connected the North-South & East-West regions to build national highways which connects between four top metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata also it connects from Srinagar to Kanyakumari and Porbandar to Silchar. Which now connects the nationwide transport even in the busiest of times because of the big 6/4 lane highways


Vajpayee was the man behind the historic telecom revolution in India who came with the new telecom policy which replaced fixed license fees for telecom companies with an arrangement of revenue sharing.


Vajpayee addresses to the world at United Nations summit as foreign minister and representative from India in the year 1977 which he mainly addressed about his thoughts on freedom, war, humanity, democracy and mentioned words like “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which means “Whole world is one family”

Vajpayee with his great oratory skills and satirical poetry always attracted and motivated people to the edge of their eyes.

He was chosen for several awards including Padma Vibhushan in the year 2002 and Bharat Ratna in the year 2015, which is India’s highest civilian award. He was hospitalized in the month of June with kidney tract infection, chest congestion and later, unfortunately, died on August 16, 2018, at Delhi’s AIIMS hospital at a ripe old age of 93.
